The selection process consists of several stages:
- Nomination: Reviewers and editors nominate candidate papers for the award from the archival papers they have reviewed or edited.
- Shortlisting: Each member of the Award Committee selects their two preferred papers from the nominated pool.
- Individual Evaluation: Shortlisted papers are individually assessed by Award Committee members, and final rankings are determined based on the average scores.
Recipients of this award receive certificates from SDEWES, along with a book authored by a member of the SDEWES International Scientific Committee. Papers co-authored by members of the SDEWES International Scientific Committee or Local Organizing Committee are not eligible for the award.
